Regarding preferred routes, I can tell you that my grandmother's sister came
with her husband in 1913 on the ship, Amerika, from Cuxhaven, Hamburg. From
looking at Ellis Island passenger manifests, I see that other Czernowitz
immigrants came through Rotterdam or Antwerp - at least in the 1920's.
