Yossi Eshet and I have prepared an Excel spreadsheet of street names
for Czernowitz based on the Romanian era map brought back from
Chernivtsi in 2002 by the team sponsored by JGS Ottawa. That
particular map was found among pages of the cemetery burial register,
and is posted on the group web site <czernowitz.dnsalias.org>.
Around the margins were listed all street names in both their
Romanian and German versions. The Excel spreadsheet was prepared to
help with street addresses given in the burial registers for "closest
relative or contact person", and is being used to verify the data
entries.
I would be glad to make this Excel sheet available to anyone who
wishes to have a copy. It is more complete than the similar listing
found on the Dizzyweb site mentioned by Ignacio, and can be sorted
and searched in different ways by anyone with Excel or other
spreadsheet programs. I'd also be glad to make this file available
to both JewishGen and the Czernowitz website masterfully run by
Jerome Schatten.
