Czernowitzers, Shalom!
1. The Czernowitz-L website will be moving to:
http://members.shaw.ca/czernowitz/ sometime around the end of August.
Access at this new site 'should' be faster than the present one, and also
more reliable as it resides on a commercial server (somewhere on the east
coast of the US, I think). Both sites will continue to be operational and
updated until the end of August, at which time the lights will dim on the
czernowitz.dnsalias.org sever which has been running non-stop for 15 months
in my study. During this period we have had over 9,000 visits -- about 20
per day on average.
The new site is actually distributed over seven different websites: the old
site broken up into seven pieces, each with it's own URL, and linked
together as appropriate. Most likely you won't notice this aspect of things
unless you're a web detective.
It would be helpful if you took a moment or two and tested out the new site
and let me know if you experience any problems. If you find the speed
faster/slower/no-change, that would be good info as well.
2. Both the Czernowitz Family Finder and the Address/Business Finder have
been recently updated. The Family Finder has some 229 listed surnames now.
If you haven't sent in the surnames that you're researching, it's never too
late. Send them to me: romers_at_shaw.ca along with the area you think they
came from; your full name and your email address. If you have relatives who
have links to known addresses in Czernowitz or links to businesses in
Czernowitz send the info to simonkreindler_at_sympatico.ca who is maintaining
the Czernowitz Address Finder.
3. It appears that we will be receiving shortly some photographs from Mimi
Taylor's most recent trip to Czernowitz -- always a treat. I'll post them
soon as I can.
