BS"D
Dear Group,
I have expressed to Mimi privately and I will tell the group, that
I feel fundraising should be done first in this manner: (once a
fundraiser)
First set up a simple web site such as exists for Mogador, Morracco
http://www.mygenealogy.ch/cemetery/
This is an amazing site, that my brother in laws family is in.
This was done with a digital camera.
Could be it was a "one-man-show".
This site allows you to alphabetically find your ancestor.
This clicks you through to your relative.
Then the relatives Matzayva (gravestone) appears and can be enlarged.
The info on the stone is translated into English and Hebrew (from
From French or Arabic)
I suggested to Mimi, that we contact the site owner and buy a copy
of the site with all the programming, put it up under our own domain
name and put in our data and pictures. Usually the cost is not too
much. ($1000-3000)
The guy might even donate a copy of the site when he learns what we
are about.
Then we put up our pictures and names and put "DONATE" buttons.
This is the kuntz!
A page opens that allows one to donate via credit card.
Suggestions for donation options:
"Donate to have your relatives picture posted and the stone translated" $50
Or
"Donate to have your relatives stone set up, cleaned, posted on the
net and translated" $100
Or
"Donate for Yortzeit" $50
"Donate to fix the cemetary" $1000
Etc
Then you raise the money for the incorporation fees and 501 C-3
status as a non profit (about $3500 or so) and then you are off.
Here, you have a group with is solid donor base.
You just need to be clever and find a way to "give-back" to those who donate.
And I know for myself, what better way to "give Back" than to make
valuable geneological information available as a public resource?
Wishing you all a wonderful Shevuos!
