Does anyone have any information on a landmanschaft burial plot called
Independent Herzogthum Bukowinaer Lodge Inc at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in
Flushing, Queens, NY? The JGS-NY website says this plot is related to the
city of Herzogthum Bukowinaer. I take Bukowinaer to be Bukowina, but a
search of JewishGen's ShtetlSeeker yields no hits for the town of Herzogthum
in Ukraine.
I am trying to determine if Isaac Joachim (original surname JACHIMOWICZ) who
was buried there in 1922, is a relative. According to his grandson, Isaac
came from Czernowitz. Isaac's father was Moses David, and Bruce Reisch has
confirmed Moses David is listed in the Czernowitz Burial Database with the
surname JACHIMOWICZ. This was the original surname of my family who came
from Rzeszow, Poland. I have additional information on the family of Moses
David and Isaac if anyone is interested.
Isaac lived in Manhattan and the Bronx, NY before settling in Brooklyn,
where his family lived for many years. Isaac's grandsons contend they were
cousins to my family by claiming that my great uncles, The Ritz Brothers
were their cousins. We have as yet been unable to find a legitimate
connection.
Any assistance you can offer is appreciated.
Thank you,
Eden Joachim
