Dear Czernowitzers,

Among my Czernowitz documents, I found one, dated 15 May 1924 which I
assume was to establish the Romanian citizenship of Jews living in
Czernowitz. My knowledge of Romanian is not sufficiently good to be sure
of this and I would be grateful if someone would translate the relevant
lines.

Primaria Orasului Cernauti
Birou pentru Constatarea Nationalitatii Romane

DECLARATIE pentru recenzamantul populatiei pe ziua de 31 Decemvrie 1910.

It then gives the names of the members of my mother's family, their
birthdates, whether they lived in Czernowitz in 1910 permanently or
temporarily and the date since which they had lived in Czernowitz.

I assume there had been a population census in 1910.
Does anyone know if the documents of that census are preserved?

Related to the subject of this document and because I will be giving a
talk at the reunion about Jewish Immigration to Czernowitz in the late
19th century, I would like to do a bit of my own research.

I would be very grateful, if those of you who know your family history,
would write and tell me when your family moved to Czernowitz or the
Bukowina, where they moved from and what profession or work they earned
their living from. Please write "immigration" on the subject line of your
message.

Shavua tov,

          Mimi
