Dear Czernowitzers,

Thanks to all who have responded to the questionnaire I sent out
on Aug. 1st and resent on Aug. 17th. Particular thanks to those who have
offered to help with planning and making arrangements.
Still, I hope that there are more of you who will want to participate
in the proposed meeting and will answer the questionnaire I reprint below.

Questionnaire:

1. Would you participate in a Bukowiner meeting in Israel in April 2007?
2. Do you favor having a 3 day meeting? If not, then how many days?
3. Would you like the meeting to start April 11?
4. If April 11 does not suit you, suggest another date.
5. Please make suggestions as to the content and program of the meeting.
6. Are you willing to materially help in planning and making arrangements
   for this meeting?
7. Please make suggestions related to any other aspects of this meeting.

Please send your answer to the Cz.-List by Aug. 27th.

Here are my own answers to the questionnaire:

1. Yes.
2. I am in favor of a meeting lasting 3 and a half days.
3. No, but if most people vote for April 11, I will participate.
4. I would prefer the meeting to start March 26.
5. I would like the program to include talks and discussions about various
topics related to Jewish Czernowitz, in particular I would like a
discussion on "What was Czernowitz really like?" and another discussion
on "what Czernowitz values, ideals and customs do we hope to preserve and
to hand down to future generations".
I hope we can also arrange an exhibition of Czernowitz and Bukowina
memorabilia, maps and photographs. Also an exhibition of Czernowitz and
Bukowina - related books in print. It is my hope that Beit Ha-Tfuzot,
Yad va-Shem and the Zionist Archives will all assist us in this.
On the lighter side, I would welcome an evening of Czernowitz anecdotes
and jokes, if possible also a joint meal of Czernowitz style food.
6. Yes, I am willing to help plan and make arrangements for this meeting.
7. I suggest that this meeting not involve any joint travel arrangements.

I hope that the talks and discussions presented at this meeting can be
recorded, then published as a book, the proceeds of it's sale to go to
the Czernowitz Jewish cemetery preservation fund.

   I would further like to suggest, that we decide at the outset;
   A) whether the proposed meeting is a public meeting, open to all,
or a private meeting, open only to former Jewish Bukowiner, their
      relatives, descendants and close friends.
   B) Whether we want to invite paid speakers.

Best greetings to all,

                 Mimi
