Dear Gloria,

Spezerei is a German (Austrian dialect) word, not a Romanian one. It means grocery.

I was looking at the "List of Small Businesses and Owners in
Bukovina" on Bruce Reisch's site for Jewish Bukovina and came across
the name of my great great grandmother's sister who was a
"spezerei". I also see the word "spezereiwaren" given for some
people as well. I looked at the Romanian-English dictionary on
Google and there is no answer given. Does anyone know what this means?

    Thank you,

    Gloria Resin
