dear simon, i have no written evidence but i do remember reading somewhere
that the austrian senior cleric who established his residence in czernowitz
and the associated centre of learning and higher education was very greatly
supported by the jewish population, including financial backing, and the
magen david symbol which appears on the cupola and also elsewhere in the
buildings was an expression of appreciation and thanks. cornel.
