I ran across the Scherek name in the article below. I wondered if you
could post the following message on your message board, with my e-mail

In the article “The Education of the Jews in Bukovina� by Dr. Herman
Sternberg, he lists the names of students, commenting, “The list of the
boys and girls of the first three classes in Czernowitz in the opening
school year of 1855/1856 and the list of the students of the fourth
class in 1857 show many names which were famous in the later history of
the land.� The name SCHEREK is included from 1857. Has anyone run
across this name? I am a Scherek descendent but from Poznan in Poland.
Most of those Scherek came to San Francisco in the 1850s. Many thanks.
