Czernowitzers...
It is now evident that the monument on our home page honouring the
four hundred Jewish Czernowitzers shot by the Nazis in July of 1941 is
indeed the monument that Prof.Moskovitch mentions and attributes to
the work of Josef Zissels.
Gerhard Schreiber emailed me today that: "...Bila is the suburb where
the Germans shot the first group of Jews, rounded up in the so called
"Jewish Quarter", among them the Oberrabbiner Mark on July 3 or 4
1941."
This confirms Hardy's thinking on the matter as well.
Best,
jerome
