Years ago, I was in Florence and went to see the David by Michelangelo.
Tens of tourists were milling around, while an elderly woman was trying
to take a photograph of the statue. After watching this for some time,
I asked people to step aside and let the woman take her photograph.
Later she thanked me in heavily accented English. I asked her
where she was from, she answered that she was born in Poland
but lived in the US, then asked me where I was from.
I started as usual: "Well it is difficult to explain, I...."
At which point she interrupted me and said: "you are a Czernowitzer?"
