Dear Bruce and all "Czernowitzers",
At this point, I have very little information about the museum
and the exhibit. All I know is that Mrs. Natalya Shevchenko,
who is in charge of setting up the exhibit, is on the faculty
of Chernivtsi University, is very knowledgeable about Czernowitz
and has been given a lot of information about Jewish life and culture
in Czernowitz, by Dr. Wolf Moskovich of the Hebrew University,
who's academic interests include Jewish Czernowitz and who is himself
a Czernowitzer of the old school. According to Dr. Moskovich,
the exhibition is dedicated exclusively to the culture and life of
Czernowitz Jews, born in the Bukovina who spoke German and Yiddish.
Which I take to mean, it does not include, those who moved to Chernovtsy
after 1944.
I believe, but am not sure, that the museum and the exhibition
are supported by and possibly are the initiative of Mr. Josef Zissels,
The chairman of the General council of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
I am trying to contact Mrs. Shevchenko directly, in order to find out
what visual material she would like us to send her, but since I do not know
Russian, nor have a Cyrillic program on my computer,I am temporarily
hindered in doing so. I will find someone, who can translate from English
to Russian and back and will write to her, then inform the list.
