Hello everyone,
Sorry to use the occasion of Steve's e-mail regarding existing
landmanschaften to make this inquiry. The Benjamin Aprile Society is
currently defunct, but now that we have so many "correspondents" I thought
I'd use this opportunity to ask again if anyone knows of this Society or wh=
o
Benjamin Aprile was. My Czernowitzer grandfather was a member.
The Society had a burial plot at Beth Israel Memorial Park (Block 6 & 8B) i=
n
New Jersey.
I see this listed in the 1930 US census, but have no idea if this is the
same person:
Bertha and Benjamin April
Resides Brooklyn
Benjamin born about 1893 in Canada of Austrian parents, Jewish
First language english
Printer
Sons Alfred and Arthur
In the 1920 census there is a Benjamin April residing in Manhattan, parents
from Galicia, first language Yiddish.
I've already checked Hannah Kliger's Jewish Hometown Associations and Famil=
y
Circles in New York, and the WPA Yiddish Writers' Group list from the 30's =
-
nothing.
Interestingly, the State of New York has a record of them and their
"decommissioning." I will write for this and let you know if anything
interesting turns up.
Kindest regards,
Jane Reifer
