Dear Mimi, dear all,
Just some corrections to the excellent Romanian text: I believe it
should read as follows, in correct Romanian and care should be taken
about the exact spelling of the word:
AICI A LOCUIT TRAIAN POPOVICI (1892-1946).
IN 1941 IN CALITATE DE PRIMAR AL CERNAUTULUI
A IMPIEDICAT DEPORTAREA IN TRANSNISTRIA SI
PROBABILA MOARTE A 19600 DE EVREI
IN AMINTIRE SI RECUNOSTINA VESNICA
EVREII CERNAUTENI
As to using the name of Czernowitz: I have two London newspaper articles
dated March 1944, one from the Evening Standard and one from the Evening
News,
referring to "the fall of CERNAUTI".
However, to us, I believe "Czernowitz" is closer to the heart and to
the mind..
Congratulations to all who have worked so hard.
