I remember that, when I was a child, my father used to say "Pavolye mit di fette hend" (slow down with your greasy hands = not so fast) whenever I came in running and quickly tried to grab something on the table... Of course, his mother tongue was Yiddish from Wiznitz; he only came to Cz-er German as a teenager after WW1, when they moved to Czernowitz.
Does anyone know whether "Alevai!" (Let it be real/true!) is Yiddish, old Hebrew or anything else?
Regards,
Charles
