I just read that Ed Arno (originally Arnold Edelstein), the
Czernowitzer cartoonist, passed away.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/27/books/27arno.html?emc=tnt&tntemail0=y
is the New York Times article site. He was a friend of my mother's from
childhood. When I was a child we used to visit with him and his
Romanian wife from time to time at their apartment in Queens, in New
York City. My mother used to call him Arno. His sense of humor as a
person came through in his work. My mother said Arno drew two portraits
of her when she was a girl but they were lost in wartime.
