The best and most typical DULCEATA, was made of rose petals
and called DULCEATA DE TRANDAFIR.
The custom is of Turkish origin. I still do make it.
I had to plant a particular variety of rose (Damascus Rose)
to get the wonderful taste and aroma of this delicacy.

Various fruit was used to make other types of "confiture".
And of course there was "vishniak" made from cherries.
This is basically an alcoholic drink made by fermenting cherries
and sugar. Children were allowed to eat small quantities
of the fermented cherries, but not to drink the highly alcoholic liquid.
Typically, in order to keep the vishniak out of reach of the children,
it was kept on the highest shelf of the "Credenza" (sideboard).
It took ingenuity and a longer absence of the grownups to get to it.
