Dear friends,
Karl-Emil Franzos is buried in Berlin, in the historic Jewish Cemetery
of Weissensee, in the row of famous personalities, close to the
entrance. The cemetery was one of the biggest in Europe and the Nazis
did not destroy it because they intended to make a "museum" out of it.
During the war, quite a few people were able to hide
there and thus save their lives.
We met S-Hantel a few times in Berlin. He is a nice, friendly person,
and his trademark is an old "cushma" (a fur hat often worn by locals in
northern Romania), which
he wears all the time, have never seen him without it. He is proud of
his Bukowinean background and has used it successfully in his popular music.
