It has nothing to do with Natalia Shevchenko's project. It is an electronic
Encyclopaedia. See my e-mail to Hardy .
"Hi, Hardy ,
You mentioned "attached posts of this picture on the Gruss", but I don't
have any link to those posts.
Nevertheless, I opened several links specified in the virtual museum. The
website is a Russian version of a Jewish History Encyclopaedia, a joint
project sponsored by The Holocaust Claims Conference, the Hebrew University
in Jerusalem, the Society for Research on Jewish Communities, "Haaguda
Lecheker Tfutsot Israel", the Avi-Hay Foundation, etc. and other well known
institutions. When you click on the "Synagogues" link there is a very
interesting and well written description of the religious and social
importance of the synagogues, very detailed. The encyclopaedia, which seems
to be very comprehensive, is intended for dissemination abroad. I did not
find anything wrong or offensive in the Russia text it is a wonderful
educational tool, perhaps too detailed.
In my view, the picture is OK it was almost probably taken from a painting
depicting a Hassidic Jew praying. It is not a "Nebekh" and should not be
interpreted as a caricature."
Regards, Abraham K.
