Thank you, Gary, for raising this topic. I have been thinking for some tha=
t it would be very interesting to solicit information about Sadagora from th=
ose with first-hand knowledge, which would undoubtedly be very interesting t=
o those of us whose ancestors emigrated from there.
In my case, an entire extended family relocated from Sadagora to (mainly) C=
hicago, but also New York and Philadelphia over the course of about 20 years=
, roughly from 1900 to 1920, with only a few family members staying behind. =
They included members of the Burger family, whose men were mainly tailors a=
nd furriers, as well as Starks, Froms, Goldbergs, and Edelsteins. Over the =
years, information about the place is lost, and we are left with only scraps=
we find in encyclopedias, wikipedia, yizkor books, and elsewhere.
Could any of the veterans on this list share some thoughts about what Sadag=
ora was like and how it was different from or similar to Czernowitz? It is =
too easy, and surely too simple, to think Sadagora was another Anatevka (the=
village in Fiddler on the Roof) - please give us some more texture and colo=
r to the place. Thanks very much.
