My mother (Cilli Zydower nee Zacharias b.1918) has been reading the postings
and has drawn out the following personal memories based on the threads in
them.
She remembers that in response to the German edict, taking a fiacre in 1941
to personally deliver a heavy Telefunken radio to the Post Office in the
Postgasse. There had been so much left there by Jews fearing the Germans,
that they began a new depot in a next-door building to store even more
goods.
Regarding the severe storm in the mid-30s, my mother remembers it happened
on a very hot summer Sunday, when she desperately wanted to go to the Prut
with her friends, and her mother stopped her saying it would rain. She
sulked, until a frightening storm began, which later they heard had
destroyed the bathing cabins next to the river and caused the deaths of
several bathers.
After that she tended to trust her mother's instinct.
Regarding "a babes a zvok", she tells me that the whole sentence goes "Mein
zeides kaftan hot gehongen of zein babes zvok" - in other words, a very
tenuous family relationship.
