I too remember the jail!! Because i was in it for about 2 hrs. In 1945,age
9,a friend name of marius and i entered a bit at the bottom end of the
herrengasse which for some reason was prohibited and a couple of soldiers
hauled us off...we got told off and then told to go home. This amazing
group does bring out amazing memories!! Ps i then got told off in no
uncertain terms by my mum! Cornel

I grew up in Czernowitz, 1944-1959. I remember that jail building on
Sovietskaya Ploshchad (Austriaplatz) as grey, somber, menacing. One or
perhaps two guard towers rose high above it; inside soldiers with
machine guns, visible to all on the outside. Is that memory correct? If
you lived in Cz during that time, please weigh in.
