Czernowitzers:
I believe the Christian's message below was meant for all of us and so
I pass it on to you.
About these stones, Lilian Madfes informed me that: "...Demnig started
to put he names of deported and killed Jews in front of their house,
to make the actual population today stumble when passing in front of
were this people lived, so that they would not be forgotten. As far as
I remember, he wanted to do this all over several German cities.
It was started, and then stopped. I liked the idea
very much, much more than a monument in a single place. I was very
disappointed when it was stopped..." Lilian also supplied two
interesting links, one in German and one in English:

Dear Czernowitzers,
Cornel's idea reminds me on a project that started in Cologne and now
expands to other European countries. The artist Günter Demnig places
"Stolpersteine" with the names of victims of the nazis on the pavement
in front of their last homes.

If you like his idea and wish it to be adopted for Czernowitz, you can
easily contact Günter Demnig and involve him in your further plans.
Best wishes
Christian
