Subject: [Cz-L] Prominent Czernowitzers/Bukowiner

Dear all,
During our Independence Day celebrations I somehow came across with the
names of three prominent Czernowitzers. I would like to share with you this
experience:

1. My former colleague Prof. Zvi Laron (formerly Herbert Langberg), whom the
Government awarded the most prestigious prize of Israel for his worldwide
recognized achievements in medicine (in endocrinology, "Laron's disease" and
juvenile diabetes).
2. There was a long article in "Haaretz" dedicated to the 80th birthday of
the famous painter Avigdor Arricha. He moved from Tel Aviv to Paris many
years ago where he continues painting. It turns out that he was born in
Czernowitz, the son of Karl-Haim Dlugacz. The family was in Transnistria, in
Luczinetz, his father died there and the rest of the family came back to Cz.
and managed to get out and come to Israel. Does anyone, among the members of
our List know details about that family?
3. At one of the Independence Day ceremonies in the Opera House that we were
invited to I met Miriam Zohar, our prominent actress at "Habima" and
"Hateatron Hakameri", who is very popular and very much respected. She was
at the same Cyprus British concentration camp where I was in 1948-1949.
After greeting her and while we were chatting in the foyer with friends, she
told everybody how proud she was being a Czernowitzer. We used to talk
about that even in Cyprus....

So, I think we should add those names to the Ehpes list of prominent
Czernowitzers.

All the best,
Abraham K.
