Some corrections:
Some of those who locate graves for a fee, ARE Jewish.
Despite my earlier suspicions, I really do not know how
the various creeping, climbing vines got to the cemetery,
But I have identified the sapling trees which grow in the cemetery
at a density of about 8 or more per square meter and are one
of the major problems, even if there are also other varieties of trees.
They are ACER PLATANOIDES, commonly called Norway maple. This is a fast
growing tree, native of North-eastern Europe, which produces an abundance
of seeds, resembling a small propeller blade. The wind scatters these seeds
for great distances and these germinate even in shady conditions were seeds
of other trees will not germinate.
Unfortunately, for the last 40 years, it has been planted by many wanting
a fast growing tree. Also in Czernowitz, including the new trees planted
on the former Herrengasse.
