A moment of reflection.

Tolerance under the righteous of the nations.

Every year, on the 21st of April, the world commemorates the once
in thousands of years tragedy of the Jewish nation; the Holocaust.
On this date the Jews of Cernauti have unveiled a memorial plaque
on the building in which the then mayor Traian Popovici, may the earth
be light on him, lived during the war years 1941 - 42.

He saved 18600 people of Jewish ethnicity from being deported.

"He who saves a single person from death, is as if he saved the whole
world". This was said by on this solemn occasion by Shaya Kleiman, Iosif
Bursuk and other leaders of the current Jewish community, repeating a well
known saying.

"The deportations are a crime, which will be condemned in the future."
emphasized Traian Popovici to the highest authorities. This happened in
Cernauti, where a ghetto was set up during the autumn of 1941.

The soul of this event which followed Easter, was Mrs. Mimi (Miriam) Taylor
of New York.

"In 1941, I was still a child, but knew who Traian Popovici was.
I would have liked to thank him personally for saving me as well, but I
could not do so, since he died in 1946".

"That which was immortal in him, has remained immortal". Was said on the
occasion of his commemoration in Fundu Moldovei. We would like to repeat
these words.
Mr. Florentin Lehaci spoke for the "Traian Popovici organization of Fundu
Moldovei district of Suceava. He said: I hope to be able to do more for
the commemoration of Traian Popovici, even though I do not know whether I
will be successful in this.

Mrs. Ana-Maria Kraus transmitted a heartfelt message from the Romanian
minister of culture and religious communities, Mr. Teodor Paleologu.

Mr. Dorin Popescu, the Romanian consul general in Chernivtsi said:
"I bow to every grey hair on the head of Mrs. Taylor. She will return
to the US, but here, there will for ever the exemplary model of Traian
Popovici: The light of freedom, of love and tolerance. Look and watch
how the Jews can bring us closer to the European concept".

Mr. Stuart Agher said:
"I come from Los Angeles. I research the archives and take photographs for a
future documentary movie about Train Popovici. In Czernowitz, I have found
unique something unique.!"

Mrs. Stela Petra, a soloist of the New York Opera, inspired us with the
improvised but in-imitable fashion in which she sang the psalm "Hava Nagila"
(Let us be happy!)
