[Cz-L] Re: czernowitz-l digest: May 18, 2009

The wall between Hauptstrasse and Postgasse (on the Ringplatz) was erected=
 
after the Soviets retreated, in July 1941. I lived in a building on
Hauptstrasse adjacent to the corner of Hauptstrasse and Ringplatz. The ret=
reating
Soviet troops firebombed the building, because there was a store for NKVD=
 
personnel (spetztorg) at street level . We, my parents and grandparents=
 
barely escaped alive, since we lived on the 3-rd floor, and for quite some=
 
time did not know that the building was on fire.
