Dear All,
I have today heard again from Dr. Bursuk about the progress of the work
at the cemetery. Unfortunately the work is proceeding very slowly.
The workers started working on May 12th, but so far have put in
only 5 - 6 days of work. In these 5 - 6 days they have managed to clear
only one tenth of one hectare, meaning 1000 square meters, ore one Dunam.
Admittedly the area they are working on, is one of the most overgrown
in the cemetery, but I do not know why they only worked about one day
out of every two. According to Dr. Bursuk the work is being done well,
the sapling trees are being cut very close to the ground.
Dr. Bursuk will pay the workers the $2000 only after they have finished
clearing a whole hectare, so the cost of the work is not a problem, but at
the rate of clearing one tenth of a hectare in two weeks, the work
will go on for years.
Dr. Bursuk himself suggested that there may be other options, possibly
hiring workers through a private contractor and I am looking at the same
sort of possibilities on my own as well.
Mimi
