There is probably no Jewish ancestry, as her father was a member of
the Waffen-SS (according to Wikipedia).
The relations toward Jews in Romania changed significantly after the
WWII, so a friendly gesture doesn't surprise me.
As a writer who wrote a lot about persecutions in Romania she might
feel interested to visit a cemetery of another persecuted minority,
or a cemetery of a town with many German language Jewish poets.
