Another interview, this time on German TV(3SAT), maybe they repeat the
programme.
The inevitable question arose, i.e. whether she feels close to Paul
Celan in her writing regarding suffering under a dictatorial regime.
She had mentioned that she had visited the Ukraine where her author
friend, and now deceased Oskar Pastior, had been in a camp after the
war. About Celan she stated quite clearly that he had belonged to
another minority, with a very different history. Müller, with an SS
father belonging to the minorty which colaborated with Hitler' Germany
as well as Antonescu's Romania, feels inhibited and uneasy about such
comparisons.
Talking about Bukowina, she mentioned that most of the German-Jewish
population has been exterminated and that it is now a landscape empty of
its population.
The photographer Isolde Ohlbaum who took her picture at the Jewish
cemetery in Czernowitz, and accompanied her throughout Ukraine, issued
now an album of photographs taken on that trip, also presented during
this interview.
