To many of you, this building may seem unremarkable, but consider; it was
not built in the 1950ies or 60ies, but in the 1930ies or twenties. It is
pure Bauhaus style and beautiful.
As to Hardy's remark
> Then in '44 we could be sick again but only in Ukrainean.
This was no great hardship, all Czernowitz adults spoke Ruthenian.
Otherwise how would they have bought food at the market?
My own mother spoke Ruthenian well, but Romanian with difficulty.
I, in second grade at the Yiddish school, also learned Ukrainian, but since
I left Czernowitz at the end of the school year, I do not remember much.
More is the pity,
Mimi
