Thanks to Luke Rothman for having the patience to photograph so many
gravestones.
They are indeed beautifully carved in traditional style and many date
from the second half of the 19th century.

As to the two Banila. Rus Banila is NW of Czernowitz, not far from Vaskautz
and close to the Cheremosh. Banila Mold. Is SW of Czernowitz, close to
Storojinetz. It is on one of the tributaries of the Siret called the little
Siret. In 2006 a small group of us visited this village. It has a small
Jewish cemetery.

What both Banila villages have in common is that in both villages, in 1941
there took place horrible massacres. In Banila Mold. 15 Jewish people were
murdered in the most cruel and gruesome manner.
In Rus. Banila the number of those murdered was 170 and they were murdered
in just this same beautiful and interesting cemetery.
