Hardy is right, by mistake, I did leave out the area cleared by the workers
hired by Dr. Bursuk.
So therefore I would like to add to what I wrote previously:
6. areas cleared by hired workers, summer of 2009: part of #33,
#53, # 54, #59, #60, #75, #76, #81, #82, #98, #99, #104 and #105.
(at this point Christian and I disagree on which areas were cleared by
the hired workers. The above listed areas are the ones I think were
cleared. Christian thinks that #33 was completely cleared by the SVIT
Ukraine workers in 2008 and that the hired workers also cleared areas
#119 and #120). Because the path between the areas are often overgrown
with weeds and occasionally used for new burials, it is not easy to
determine where one area starts and another one finishes.
We have asked members of the study group "Journey into Jewish Heritage,
to take some more measurements as well as photographs, so we can
determine precisely, which areas have been cleared.
Bruce Reisch is also checking the location of gravestones I photographed
or took note of, against the locations noted by the Ottawa volunteers,
thereby confirming whether a particular area has been cleared or not.
For instance, just before leaving Czernowitz, I noted that the SVIT
volunteers were working on an area which contained a gravestone with
the name Osias Bretschneider and a number of graves with the surname Kula.
Bruce checked the location of these graves and found that they are all
in area #57. This confirms that the volunteers were working on area #57.
I have additional notes and/or photographs on which Bruce and I will work
in order to confirm which areas have been cleared.
When time permits, I intend to put all the photographs, of gravestones on
which the inscriptions are legible, taken this year, by me or by others,
into one public Picasa Web Album, thereby allowing these gravestones
to be viewed by anyone who wants to.
