Yes Andrew, - our experience all over Romania too. Very disappointing for
our children after telling them all their lives that mamaliga was the
staple diet of Romanians.
We lunched in Czernowitz on take-away foccacia sandwiches and pizzas.
I printed out the recipes from the cook-book and already made the malai.
It is very good although not quite as I remember it. Next I shall try the
totch!
Today's polenta is of the instant variety and when we make mamaliga it is
very quick and easy in non-stick pots,- no vesuvius peaks to speak of! I
like it with branza/Romanian feta and leben.
