I wonder whether you know that the house in which Popovici lived and
the
remembrance plaque was attached belonged to the Rabbi of Sadigura, who
lived
in Vienna and emigrated to Israel Tel Aviv after the Anschluss. At his
visits to Czernowitz he prayed in the "klaus" (hassidic sobriquet for
intimate synagogue)shil, which was in the courtyard of the house and
stayed
in the apartment of my distant relatives, family of Dr. Billig, who
lived on
the upper floor of the house.
