Strange correspondence! Laxatives used in Czernowitz!
But since we are trying to reconstruct what life in Czernowitz
was like, this particular gastro-intestinal subject would be incomplete,
without mentioning what was used for the opposite problem.
We used "Tier-Kohle" (animal coal?), a black powder with a horrible taste.
We could continue with remedies for colds, stomach aches,
sore feet, cuts and infected wounds......
But, on this the first night of Hanukah, I prefer to think of the song:
Oy ihr kleine lichtalech, ihr derzeit Geshichtalech.
