Dear all,

would there be someone out there who can tell me more about high schools in Czernowitz from the 1920s to 1940.

My grandfather was born 1911 in Zastavna but he went to "Liceul real nr. 2" in Czernowitz, where he received his "bacalaureat" diploma in 1928.
His younger brother, born 1921, was also sent to high school in Czernowitz - not sure if the same one.
Both went to primary school for four years, starting with fifth grade they went to Czernowitz - not sure if first to another school and then the "liceu".

So what I am looking for really is any and all available information about GERMAN speaking schools in Czernowitz starting with grade 5 for boys - and also for girls, as there were two sisters as well.

Regarding university, my grandfather studied at the Technische Hochschule in Brünn (now Brno), and I have his records from there; but I know that his younger brother started to study law in Czernowitz until he decided to leave for Palestine in 1939 (his younger sister recalls that he was outraged by the fact that they made Jewish students stand during lectures in his first - and only - year at the university). Also, my great-grandfather and possibly one or two other family members studied at the university in Czernowitz - I am currently trying to find records of their studies in the university archives but my messages to the university have remained unanswered so far. If somebody can recommend a succesful way to go here - I would be very grateful.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

Dana Dimitriu
