Generally I am amazed at the degree of detailed memory many of you
have of Czernowitz related events, streets, personalities, etc. For
me most things are vague except a few events that I have kept in my
mind like a photographic frame. I remember for instance the day we
moved to the Ghetto as a 14 year old kid. I see my self pushing a
tachka (a wheelbarrow) that contained a box with my families silver
ware down the Neuweltgasse toward the Wickenhauser Gasse where we
will live until the Soviets came back in 1944. Another fact that I
remember is that the first units of the red army entered Czernowitz 3
days before my 18th birthday on the 28 of March 1944 as two months
later I was drafted in to the army and left for the Ural. This is why
I dared to contradict Hardy. I thank the people who confirmed my
recollection of that faithful event.
