This is a very important point. All mail systems will pass plain text
messages without any problem, but often either mangle or just block other
types of data for security and other reasons.
I suggest everyone to use plain text for the list.
Plain text in other languages, especially based on the Latin alphabet, but
with Umlaut, etc., also in most other languages is OK. For those interested,
please see UTF-8 Unicode in the Wikipedia.
