Gingold the painter.

On the other side of the gangway lived the Parolas.

Dr. Parola was an English language professor at the University

married to a Russian woman and father of Dori and Erika.

Dori had one short arm because as an infant he fractured it

and was splinted by a bad orthopedist and therefore it stopped growing.

Erika was nicknamed" the Stauber" a term taken from the vegetable

world for plants over-sized but lacking in taste.

The Parolas fled with the Russians and passed the war in Kazakhstan
    where the professor died.

 So far for the Parolas.

Some time after we came back from the Ghetto, Gingold with his family

   moved into the Parola flat.

He was a painter and busy all day but in the evening he sang arias from

famous operas. He had a good voice and we liked to listen.

Gingold was also an alcohol addict. At this time Vodka was hard to get.

As a painter , he used Methyl alcohol as a diluant.

This stuff made out of wood had the same taste as alcohol.

     But it is fatally toxic.

   Gingold drank Methyl alcohol .

The next morning he started marching on our gangway to and fro , stomping
    his feet.

He was also singing on the march.

People in the court looked up , shaking their heads.

On the third day morning , Gingold did not show up on the gangway.

    That afternoon they buried him.
