It's vulytsya Popovicha, named after Omelyan Popovich (1856-1930), a
prominent local public intellectual, educator, writer, and politician.
In 1918-1919 he was the Vice President of the short-lived West
Ukrainian People's Republic. There were several other well known
Popovichs in Czernowitz, including the Rector of the University
(1880-1881 and 1895-1896) and the famous war time mayor.
