[Cz-L] Czernowitz -- panel discussion, new film

Marianne Hirsch and Leo Spitzer's new book, _Ghosts of Home_, inspired
a wonderful panel discussion Monday evening at New York City's Center
for Jewish. The program, called "Czernowitz in Jewish Memory"
(http://www.cjh.org/programs/czernowitz.php), featured our friends
Marianne and Leo, and also Susannah Heschel (professor of Jewish
studies at Dartmouth College), Norman Manea (Bukovina-born writer and
professor of literature at Bard College), and Boris Sandler (editor of
the Yiddish newspaper Forverts).

Boris Sandler is also the producer of a delightful new documentary
film, _Glimpses of Yiddish Czernowitz_, which was screened during the
program. The film is in Yiddish with English subtitles. It is divided
into five segments, including one on the actress Sidi Tal -- very
exciting for me, because she was married to my uncle, Pinchas Falik.
The film ended with thanks to several members of this list.

A DVD of the film can be purchased on the Forverts website --

($2 in the US, $4 to other countries).

Audio files of many of the Center for Jewish History's past programs
are at http://www.cjh.org/programs/programarchives.php . Let's hope
that this one was recorded also and that it will soon be available for
listening.
