On the fate of the Temple:
As I have mentioned to this list in the past, there is a specific US
Commission established to deal with exactly matters of this kind.
The United States Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage
Abroad.
In 2005 they issued a report called: Jewish Cemeteries, Synagogues, and
Mass Grave Sites in Ukraine.
They are located in Washington DC, and their email is:
uscommission_at_heritageabroad.gov.

Part of what Warren L. Miller, Chair of the commission writes in the
report: "The Commission is also required by US law to seek assurances from the
governments of the region regarding the protection and preservation of these
cultural heritage properties. I am pleased to note that the governments
of United States and Ukraine entered into a Commission-negotiated agreement
regarding the protection and preservation of places of worship, historic
sites, and memorials in 1994. The agreement covers the sites identified in
this report."

Just to add, the Temple is included in the report.

What might be done with this report, or with the aid of the Commission, I
do not know, but the intent is clear. Does someone know somebody on the
commission? Any ideas?

I respect what Hardy and Cornel wrote, but add just one phrase: Never say
never!
Who would have thought just ten years ago that a person of color would be
President of the United States? Never say never!
