The carpet beater was known as Trapaczka / trapatchka all over the Bukovina
and probably in all of Ukraine and Poland. I think that the way the reeds
are twisted to make the beater results in a shape which has 3 smaller
lozenge shapes enclosed in a circle.
'tra' in trapatchka refers to these, 'patch' means slap, so a trapatchka is
a 3 slaps gadget.
