Dear Czernowitzers,
I am appealing to you again to send contributions to CJCRO, so that we can
continue clearing the cemetery of sapling trees and other invasive plants.
In response to my last appeal, 9 days ago, I received two contribution; one
from someone who has not contributed before and one from someone who has
contributed before.
Most of you have grandparents and other relatives interred in the Czernowitz
cemetery. Were you to be asked to pay $50 - $100 per year per grave, to
maintain the graves of your relatives, most of you would do so. Yet when we
have a chance to clear the cemetery of invasive plants which threaten to
completely destroy the resting place of our ancestors, most of you have not
contributed any money to this effort.
I received today a letter from Dr. Bursuk in which he confirms what we have
already heard from Edgar Hauster, namely that over 4 hectares of the
cemetery have been cleared so far and that work has started to clear 2 more
hectares. I have sent Dr. Bursuk $4000 of the money contributed to CJCRO, so
that he could pay the workers who are clearing these two hectares.
Once these two hectares are cleared, 6.3 hectares of the cemetery will be
cleared, but 5.3 hectares will remain overgrown with sapling trees, the
roots of which will lift the graves and destroy them.
CJCRO has only a few hundred Dollars left in its account, not enough to
clear even one hectare. Unless more of you contribute money toward the
clearing of the cemetery, this work will come to a halt.
If you have not contributed to CJCRO before, please do so soon.
If you have contributed previously, but can afford to contribute more,
please also do so soon.
Also tell your relatives, friends and any Czernowitzers you may know, about
our effort to restore and preserve the cemetery and urge them to participate
in this effort.
Unlike most other charitable organizations, CJCRO does not spend any money
on rent, salaries, advertising, office equipment, utilities, etc. Except for
bank fees and fees for the legal registration of and accounting for our
organization, all the money we receive in contributions is used solely to
pay the workers who do the clearing of the cemetery.
Please send your contribution in one of the following ways:
