[Cz-L] Drafts, superstitions, etc

Dear Friends,
It all sounds so familiar. And it was passed on to the next generation.
All that Mimi wrote, I do remember well. Moreover, we used to drive our
daughter mad, when she was small, to put her hat on in winter, lest she
catch a draft or a cold. We still do, sometimes. Of course, she doesn't
listen.
My mother-in-law, Alma Wagner, also a Czernowitzer, had a few more
superstitions, maybe not necessarily local: if you spill some salt, it
brings quarells, arguments. If you wipe a table with paper, it brings
bad luck. These probably go back to times where salt and paper were
expensive. However much I tried to disbelieve, these negative things do
happen, quite often if not always. To me at least. All in the mind?

We have a dear friend in Israel, whose lovely twin girls are now in the
army and proud of it. When they were small, my husband nicknamed them
"Snipunkale" and
"Pitziunkale", it was somehow a spntaneous reaction, they were so sweet.
I wonder if that is connected with Czernowitzer Yiddish and German. Does
anybody
recall any similar endearments?
