There is an interesting article in today's NY Times, in the travel section,
about the painted monasteries of Bucovina. In the last several paragraphs,
the author describes the History Museum of Bukovina Jews in Czernowitz,
which he visited.
I had been to the painted monasteries in 2005, to work on another volunteer
project, several years before I went to Cz to work at the cemetery, in 2008.
I never realized then, then, or until now, how geographically close to Cz.
I had been. At that time, and until I went to Cz. I also didn't know
exactly how close my family connections to Cz were. (My great grandparents
are buried there, and my grandmother and my mother's older sister grew up
there.)
