Czernowitzers...

On 17.04.1932, 08:00 AM, Czernowitz adopted new traffic regulations, which were conceptualized by experts from Paris/France. The main principle of these traffic regulations reads as follows:

"The traffic lane is solely dedicated to the vehicles, the sidewalks to the pedestrians."

The Czernowitz daily newspaper "Der Tag" - "The Day" (http://czernowitzdaily.blogspot.com/) released on 14.04.1932 a full-page illustrated article on the new traffic regulations. Three "stop apparatus" were installed at congested crossings:

Ringplatz-Russischegasse-Hauptstraße
Siebenbürgerstraße-Neueweltgasse-Petrinogasse
Kuczurmarestraße-Austriaplatz

BTW: The new traffic regulations were for a very long period subject to ironical and cynical comments by the Czernowitzers, who didn't agree to abandon their - anarchic - autonomy.
