My father, Simon (Shimshon Berl) Neuman, owned a men's clothing store
on the Herrengasse circa 1935/36 until the Russians confiscated his
inventory, closed down the store, imprisoned him in Czernowitz, and
later deported him to Siberia, from wence he did not return.
I am wondering where there might be a municipal record of pre WWII
shops and their owners and if so, how could I gain access to such
records...I will be in Czernowitz at the end of July/early August as a
volunteer with Aktion Suhnezeichen Fiedensdienste lending a hand with
the clearing of the Cz. cemetery while trying to avoid ticks and those
stinging nettles so vividly described by Mimi Taylor.
Thanks. paula g.
